Recording Question [Thursday
December 11th, 2008
8:14pm
]
Hey everyone. I have a question for those who know a bit about recording equipment.

I'm looking to get a microphone so I can record some songs on my computer. I obviously don't want to just go out and buy one because I know nothing about them or what to look for. Here's some info that may or may not matter:

I will be recording singing voices.
I do not have a program to record in.
I have a PC (laptop+external hd).
I'm not looking for the highest quality recording equipment, but I do want something decent.

Questions:
What will I need?
What companies are reliable?
What should I look for in types of mics/recording equipment?

I'm not familiar with any of this, so any help would be amazing. Thanks you guys, I hope I can find something!

[not friends only cause everyone should be able to see this!]

So! One of the girls that I've been following (because her artwork/crafts are gorgeous) is having a drawing for three of her prints. I'm definitely in love with all of them (especially 1&3)!

She is [info]meganleewelch and you can check her post out here: http://meganleewelch.livejournal.com/127261.html?nc=1

Networking and sharing art is incredible! Hopefully I'll be able to show off some stuff I've done/am doing and have it be supported by my friends, too, but for now please go oogle this woman's creative genius!

(you can also buy her prints on her website which is linked from her post!)

Should we make a Sometimes A Great Notion community?

Or we probably should have thought of making a "SEHS AP Lit" community at the begining of the year cause this is almost over, huh?

Or just post what's happened here?

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory AWESOME FACTS!!! [Tuesday
November 22nd, 2005
10:31pm
]
I was searching for Mike Teavee's story (how he calculated where the Wonka Bar would be- I'm not sure exactly what it was so I went looking for it, never found it), but I came across facts, and I've posted my favorites/most interesting:

  • Four kids represent a deadly sin:

  • Augustus Gloop: Gluttony
    Mike Teavee: Wrath (and possibly Sloth)
    Veruca Salt: Greed
    Violet Beauregarde: Pride

  • Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has been popular for inflation fetishism.

  • Veruca and Violet can be seen feuding as Wonka sings Pure Imagination. In real life, Julie Dawn Cole (Veruca) and Denise Nickerson (Violet) became good friends and both had a crush on Peter Ostrum (Charlie) (they would alternate days over who would spend time with Peter).

  • In 1999, in the same spirit that discovered The Dark Side of Oz (playing Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon while watching The Wizard of Oz), a similar strain of serendipity uncovered Willy Wonka's 2112—playing the epic Rush album 2112 beginning at a point near the entrance into the factory. Specific instructions and instances of synchronicity can be found here. Anyone have this CD?

  • The man who played Mr. Slugworth in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is named Günter Meisner.

  • A book is out called Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipes, which is a collection (compiled by Felicia Dahl) of recipes of foods mentioned in Dahl's books. Definitely involves a lot of work to make most of them (not a children's cookbook) and impossible-to-get ingredients.

  • Fred Astaire originally wanted to play Willy Wonka, but was considered "too old" to play the part, so Gene Wilder "won the role."

  • Gene Wilder's hair grows more and more "crazy" as the movie progresses (he's truly mad!).

  • Peter Ostrum refused a several-year contract after the film was made, but he refused, not wanting to be an actor, really. He was actually embarrassed for doing the movie, but now is quite proud and he has become a vet. PEOPLE Magazine did a "where are they now?" article on him, found here.

  • Peter Ostrum went through puberty while filiming- you can notice the voice ranges he has throughout the entire movie.

  • The girl in the classroom scene who says "I opened one hundred Wonka bars" was Mel Stuart's daughter- rewarded by him because it was her idea to make the movie. The boy who announces the Golden Ticket contest in Charlie's classroom was Mel's son.

  • A Snozzberry can be misinterpreted as a booger (just think about it), but in actuality, it is explained in Dahl's "My Uncle Oswald" as being the head of a penis.

    Find more facts here and here.

Urinetown [Friday
November 11th, 2005
2:49pm
]
Hey you guys.

If you haven't already seen "Urinetown, the Musical" at South Eugene High School, I would strongly recommend going. Tonight and tomorrow are your last two chances to come and see it.

Jim Steinberger, the South Choir director, says he has never seen a better, more put together show at South his entire career at SEHS (that would be 21 years).

Friday, November 4th we had 15 reviewers. Nothing bad has been said about this show, proving that it is well worth your $8 (if you're a student or senior citizen) and $10 (if you're an adult).

We haven't had much publication, yet we've still had two audiences with 200+ people. Do you know how *awesome* it would be to have over 300, or 400? Maybe it's a little unrealistic, but that's only because of you guys hesitating to see the show. South Eugene High School Theater Department needs the funds, and for such a high quality show, you won't regret helping us out.

Last night, the 10th of November, we sent a video out to have our show judged for the State Competition. None of us have any doubts that we'll get in. Not because we're all self-absorbed pricks (well, some of us anyway :p), but because we are so confident about this show that we're willing to be judged and put on the best performance of our lives, every night for you guys (and for judges).

There has not been a bad showing of this performance yet, and we aren't going to let one happen. So please, come enjoy "Urinetown, the Musical" at 7:30 P.M. in the South Eugene High School Auditorium tonight or tomorrow (11/11, 11/12). This is your last chance. Don't be afraid to see it- don't hesitate -friends who have seen it already, please explain this show is well worth every penny you give.

Thank you.
